Afghanistan Flag Colors Meaning
The Afghanistan flag is a tricolor flag with three equal vertical bands of black (hoist side), red, and green. The Afghan flag has its national emblem on the center of the flag. The National Emblem is in white at the center of the flag on the red band and slightly overlapping the green and the black band.
The national emblem has a mosque and a minbar (mosque pulpit) in the middle with two flags on both sides, a Quranic Shahada verse overshadowing the two. A wreath of wheat surrounding the structure is symbolizing the significance of agriculture to the country’s economy.
There is also a ribbon at the bottom with the word Afghanistan and a beam of light emitting atop the dome, illuminating the phrase ‘God is Great.’ Just beneath the mosque structure is ‘1298 Hijri,‘ stating the year of Afghanistan’s independence from the British Empire, equivalent to 1919.
- Black: Symbolizes the dark and troubled past of the nation.
- Red: It represents the bloodshed by those who fought for the country’s independence.
- Green: It represents Islam and prosperity.
